Competitive

Fall '26 - Spring '27

Silver Falls SC has long recognized the need for additional opportunities for players seeking a higher level of training and competition. Over the years, many players and families have had to leave our club to pursue those opportunities elsewhere. Beginning Fall 2026, Silver Falls SC will launch a Competitive Program designed to provide a local pathway for players who are ready for a greater level of commitment, development, and competition while continuing to represent their community.

Our goal is to create an environment that challenges motivated players, supports long-term development, and strengthens the future of soccer within Silverton, Mt Angel, and the surrounding communities.

What This Means for Our Club

Our Recreational Program is not going away. Recreational soccer remains a vital part of Silver Falls SC and will continue to operate as it does today. The Competitive Program simply creates an additional pathway for players who are interested in and ready for a more competitive soccer experience.

Both programs are important for the future of our club and community.

Program Overview

The Silver Falls SC Competitive Program is designed for players seeking a higher level of training, competition, and commitment within a positive and development-focused environment.

Teams will be formed through a combination of formal tryout evaluations and ongoing player observation. Participation in tryouts is open to all interested players within the eligible age groups.

Player selection will be based on more than technical ability alone. Evaluations will also consider:

  • Work ethic and effort
  • Coachability
  • Attitude and sportsmanship
  • Competitive mindset
  • Team fit and overall development potential

Our goal is to build teams that not only compete at a high level, but also represent Silver Falls SC with character, commitment, and a strong team culture.

As a community-based club, priority placement will be given to players residing within the Silver Falls and Mt. Angel school districts.

Commitment & Schedule

Seasonal Structure

The competitive year will generally be divided into two primary seasons:

  • Fall Season: Approximately August through early November
  • Spring Season: Approximately February through April

Training Schedule

Teams will typically train:

  • 2-3 times per week during the Fall and Spring seasons

Training schedules may vary slightly depending on age group, coach availability, field access, and team needs.

Games

League games are generally played on:

  • Saturdays and/or Sundays

Each team, each season, will typically:

  • Host 4 home games
  • Play 4 away games

Travel Expectations

Most travel will consist of day trips within the Willamette Valley. Depending on league placement and scheduling, some teams may occasionally travel farther for league matches, including possible trips to areas such as Eugene or Bend.

Optional Winter Opportunities

Additional winter opportunities may be offered for interested teams and players, including:

  • Winter league play
  • Indoor training
  • Tournaments

Participation in winter activities is optional and will involve additional fees.

Tournament Opprtunities

  • Teams may also choose to participate in additional tournaments throughout the year based on coach and team interest. Tournament participation is optional and may require additional player fees and travel.

Other Sports

Silver Falls SC recognizes the value of multi-sport participation, particularly for younger athletes. We will make reasonable efforts to accomodate winter sport conflicts whenever possible, though conflicts during primary Fall and Spring soccer seasons may be more difficult to accomodate.

Cost

The Silver Falls SC Competitive Program is designed to remain accessible while supporting a higher level of training, competition, and organization.

Registration Fees

Registration fees are meant to be similar to our Recreational Program, reflecting the community-based nature of the club and our commitment to keeping soccer accessible for local families.

Uniform Requirements

Competitive players will be required to purchase a full uniform package, which includes two jerseys, a pair of shorts, and a pair of socks. This ensures consistency for game-day presentation and allows for appropriate rotation throughout the season.

Additional Costs

Depending on team participation and interest, additional costs may include:

  • Optional tournament entry fees
  • Optional winter program participation (if offered)
  • Possible travel-related expenses for out-of-area games or events

Financial Support

Silver Falls SC is committed to ensuring that cost is not a barrier to participation in the Competitive Program. Payment plans and need-based scholarship assistance will be available for families who qualify.

Coaching

Competitive teams will be led by committed and qualified coaches who prioritize long-term player development, positive team culture, and age-appropriate training environments.

Our coaching approach focuses on developing confident, capable players through:

  • Technical skill development
  • Tactical understanding appropriate to age and stage
  • Positive reinforcement and constructive feedback
  • Building strong team culture and accountability

Coaches will be supported by Silver Falls SC to ensure consistency in training standards, communication, and player development expectations across all competitive teams.

We are committed to creating an environment where players are challenged appropriately, supported as individuals, and encouraged to grow both on and off the field.

Tryouts

Tryouts are open to all players interested in participating in the Silver Falls SC Competitive Program.

Players will be evaluated through a combination of structured tryout sessions and ongoing observation during play. Evaluations will be conducted by club coaches and staff and will consider both technical ability and overall player characteristics, including effort, attitude, coachability, and game understanding.

Evaluation Criteria

Player placement decisions will be based on multiple factors, including:

  • Technical skill and comfort with the ball
  • Game understanding and decision-making
  • Effort and work rate
  • Coachability and attitude
  • Team fit and developmental potential

Our goal is to form teams that are balanced, competitive, and focused on long-term player development.

Player Placement

Not all players will be selected for a competitive roster. In some cases, players may be encouraged to continue in the Recreational Program as they develop.

Communication

Families will be notified of team placement decisions following tryouts. Additional information regarding next steps, training schedules, and team formation will be provided at that time.
